What do other people think amount record companies remastering old recordings? I went to get Genesis's 'Land of Confusion' and listened to the thirty second preview and thought it sounded a bit hollow and too modern/digital. So then I found the old, analogue recording (single version) and listened to thirty seconds of that. Actually, I listened to both repeatedly for a while but I came away confused. The old one can sound a wee bit unclear compared to the remastered one so I don't think that is definitively better either.

If you forced me to choose I think I'd go with the original but not with big conviction. I think maybe a subtler, gentler remastering might have convinced me but as it is I think they are trying a bit too hard. It's not like music recording equipment in 1986 was rubbish, far from it. Surely remastering makes more sense for much older recordings. Why fiddle about with Genesis recordings from 1986; what's actually wrong with it? Nothing as far as I can tell.
