Why is it that the names of winds are so euphonious? In France they have the Mistral, a cold wind that gets funnelled down the Rhône valley toward Marseilles. The wind that blows across the Mediterranean from the Sahara is called the Sirocco. Williwaw is a cold mountain wind descending to the sea. The Arabs have the Simoom, the poison wind.
