@matigo Because the food industry has been training them for years and years to be addicts. If you give up sugar in hot drinks and cereal…and then attempt to eat the sugared versions again, you almost vomit.
@jws Schools need to teach meta-knowledge as well as specific knowledge? Agreed. But we have a society that is markedly, or perhaps even consciously, trivial. You’ll never see that type of education in a trivial society.

@jws You can’t teach intelligence, you can only teach knowledge. There may be a knack to approaching and absorbing knowledge of course—and that can be taught—but it can be taught at a young age, well before university.
