@hazardwarning Thanks for the info. I got a Shark Liftaway. It’s excellent. I had no idea there was that much stuff in the carpet. One slight quibble: after switching off, there is sometimes a slight dust deposit under the machine (on a maroon carpet). I had to switch back on and nozzle it up. I still think it’s pretty impressive though.
@matigo Got ya. Your humour in this case is too subtle for my simple brain. I’ve been accused of having a very subtle sense of humour myself. You may be even worse though…

@hazardwarning Was the Dyson ball not powerful enough? Does the liftaway part of the Shark stand on the stairs OK. Because you want a hand free to grab the bannister when you’re near the top of the stair don’t you? The floor head part could be smaller but I suppose it’ll be alright combined with some nozzle action…lol.
